One day it would be wonderful if rather than turning away from each other, we could all reach out to each other as human beings, because we recognise the things within us that make us all the same.
It would be wonderful if we could use those things we have in common to build grounds to gives us a shared foundation to support each other through the good times and the bad.
It would be wonderful if we could take that ground and use it to build bridges that reach across the things that we think divide us.
It would be wonderful if we could have the humility to start building those bridges at the same time as each other, so we could meet in the middle somewhere.
It would be wonderful if we could understand that the things that divide us are not really that important, certainly not important enough to kill or be killed for.
It would be wonderful if we could be interested by the things that make us different, instead of fearing them.
It would be wonderful if we could learn from those differences, new things that allow us to break new ground on which to build structures we never before dreamed possible, and which enrich our lives, all our lives, immeasurably.
It would be wonderful if we could learn to treat every person on the planet in the same way that we would like to be treated.
It would be wonderful if we could show respect for the great and glorious bounty, for the sheer diversity that we are privileged to witness in the world by understanding that it is a privilege, and by not trying to destroy the things we don’t recognise or don’t want to recognise.
It would be wonderful if we could be generous with our time, our care, our feelings, our thoughts, our kindness and most importantly, our love. These are the things that increase the more we use them. These are the things that grow. These are the muscles that get stronger the more we exercise them.
It would be wonderful if we could simply recognise that the thing that connects us all is love, and that the more love there is, the more love there is, for everyone.
Today, on a day when fifty people have been killed, and over fifty more are in hospital, and the world around us is exploding with hate for those who are different, and we are urged to isolate, to turn our backs, to lash out, to fear, it is more important than ever to love.
Love with pride.
Look each other in the eye.
Be with each other.
Be reckless with the love you have.
Give love freely.
Accept love freely.
Open your arms and your hearts.
Be there for each other.
Just love each other.
