Oscar and I were driving to see a friend yesterday. He was very excited. He loves our friend dearly because she spoils him rotten.
He turned to me, and said very solemnly:
‘I love X, but I hope her little girl is not there.’
I said:
‘No. She will be at school, but why don’t you want her there? She always plays with you.’
To which he replied pompously, and as it happens entirely erroneously:
‘Yes. Well. She does, but she is always buggering me.’
ahem.
I think he meant to say ‘bothering me.’
I hope so.
I really, really hope so.

Ah bless him. My 3 yr old has issues with the word ‘blackcurrant’ – the ‘rra’ part is often dropped from it which leads to disapproving looks from anyone within earshot when she asks for juice.

People just don’t understand do they?x
The mind boggles
Or he could mean ‘bugging me’ (maybe he’s getting into americanisms in anticipation of a move westward)
Sharon
It does. All the time.

I didn’t think of that. Maybe. Or maybe he knew it was a bad word and just wanted to try it out! I suspect that this was the case truly.
